Truth be told, every season at Blackwood Lane is special no matter the weather. The natural beauty that envelopes the winery, much like the wine itself, is constantly evolving. Indeed, the best wine in the world, like nature, is alive, dynamic and perfect. Blackwood Lane owner, Carlos Lee, can attest to the fact that when it comes to wine perfection, one must let nature take its course.

But back to the weather! Like I was saying, there really is no bad season at Blackwood Lane. Visit the winery when it’s raining, and the experience is contemplative, warm and relaxing–like curling up with a good book on a cold drizzly day. Come by when it’s snowing, and the winery transforms into a winter wonderland.

And now, during the nascence of Spring, there is a sense of renewal and revival all about. Again, it’s analogous to wine, as wine is all about transformation, about changing from one state to another. From grape to bottle, there is a constant and continuous transformative process that is lovingly guided by the benevolent hands of the vintner, whose sole purpose is to oversee the process. It’s reminiscent of a line by Romantic poet, William Blake, who referred to the condition of Man as “God’s in slow arising.” I feel Blake’s passage applies to Carlos Lee’s approach to winemaking. His wines are always in a steady and consistent arising, persistently reaching greater heights of perfection. Anyone who has tasted his wines knows that it’s heavenly – divine.

I realize that perhaps all this talk about renewal and transformation must be because Easter is just around the corner! And whether you celebrate the holiday or not, it’s a season of rebirth and transformation that everyone can relate to. It’s a time to surround yourself with family and friends, a time of good food, and, of course, great wine!
